The last few pounds

In any successful weight reduction regime the first pounds come off rapidly as there is water loss and as you eat more fiber you end up cleansing your colon whether you realize it or not. Then chances are your weight will go up if you exercise. This is because muscle weighs more than fat and as you become fit and replace fat with muscle you’ll weigh more and potentially become disappointed….

That’s why I recommend to my weight loss clients that they do not weigh themselves the first few weeks but see how their old clothes fit. That’s a much much better way of noticing that you are getting in shape. Then there are plateaus where you weight remains more or less constant for a while. That’s natural and good as your body’s weight set point changes to a lower weight.

Then you start to reduce your weight again. One to two pounds reduction a week is the maximum sustianable rate in the long term. In time you’ll reach your near lowest weight. However, the last few pounds may be real tough if you are attempting to lower your weight too much (like me).

So here I’ve been at a good weight – even a great weight but desiring to lower my weight by the last five pounds. That had been difficult. Recently, I studied various commercial weight loss systems for total cost and scientific basis of the diet system. You can read some of my results where I compare NutriSystem and LA Weight Loss and NutriSystem and Jenny Craig and here I do a cost comparison. Out of all systems I have studied so far NutriSystem wins hands down mainly because it uses a low glycemic index menu and also it has the lowest overall cost.

I have known about and used the low glycemic index foods for myself for quite a time but as I was doing my research I have had a real low glycemic index menu in the last week and low and behold my weight has gone down by two pounds (which is a huge amount for me as I’m already near my all time low and I’m beginning to have as thin a waistline as I did forty years ago. So by using the low glycemic index diet I’m in the middle of losing those last few pounds – those extra difficult pounds.

In the meanwhile I have developed “The More Diet” which I’ll present to the world later. Basically I believe in allowing rather than saying thou shalt not. So I propose  you eat more foods which are good for you – like low glycemic index fruits, vegetables, a little nuts, plenty and plenty of unadulterated water (more, more, more good foods) you’ll be satisfied and won’t desire the nasty junk food. Anyway, that’s true for me. In fact, I feel full and satisfied on lots of broccoli, tomatoes, apples and  oranges.

Finally I just wrte a post on another blog about food labels. Go there and read it and find out how many low fat and non-fat foods have much higher caloriies than the normal food.

Six ways to make your diet more healthy

When you are free from any illness or medical condition and feel full of energy you know that are having a healthy diet.

Here are some tips for you about healthy diets:

  1. Your diet is well balanced and contains all types of foods.
  2. A mainly vegetarian diet is preferable.
  3. Your main carbohydrates should come from slow absorption (low glycemic value) starchy foods such as whole grain bread, cereals, rice, whole grain pasta, and potatoes because they are a good source of energy – not to mention being the main source of a range of nutrients of a person’s diet like fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamin B.
  4. loaded with lots of fruits and vegetables such as orange, apples, celery, broccoli, carrots, beans and peas because eating at least five portions of any variety can provide the vitamins the body needs and it also satisfies hunger without having to worry about fats and excess carbohydrates. The more color and variety the fruits and vegetables have the better. Remember that the five portions is the absolute minimum.
  5. Cold water fish dishes (such as real ocean salmon – not the farm grown junk) that have high amounts of essential oils such as omega-3 fatty acids as well as protein, vitamins, and minerals that are not available to other food.
  6. Make sure you drink plenty and plenty of plain water.
